SUMMARY:Archaeology Walks on Tresco
DESCRIPTION:Archaeologist and Scilly guide Dr Katharine Sawyer leads a series of walks exploring some of Tresco’s most fascinating historic sites – from Bronze Age burial chambers and settlements to ruined castles\, hidden landmarks and traces of island life stretching back thousands of years. \nKatharine offers two walks each day\, departing at 10am and 1.30pm\, with a different route for each – so you can join one\, or make a day of it and discover even more of Tresco’s past. \n2026 Dates\nMonday 24th August\nMonday 14th September\nMonday 28th September \nWalks depart from Smith Square beside the Tresco Island Office and last around 1½–2 hours. \n£10 per walk\, payable in cash directly to Katharine on the day. \nPlaces are limited\, so please book in advance with the Tresco Island Office. \nThe Walks\nDepending on the day\, your route might take you north across Castle Down to Cromwell’s Castle\, King Charles’ Castle and Tregarthen Hill Burial Chamber; through the heart of the island to discover a Bronze Age settlement\, the Old Blockhouse and Smuggler’s Cache; or into the Abbey Garden to uncover layers of history hidden among the planting. \nWhichever route you take\, expect to discover places and stories you might easily have passed without a second glance. \nComing Across from Bryher\nCheck the daily inter-island boat times to plan your crossing from Bryher to Tresco and allow enough time to reach Smith Square before the walk begins. \nThe walks cover some steep\, rocky and uneven ground\, so sturdy footwear and suitable outdoor clothing are recommended. \nAfterwards\, stay awhile for lunch\, explore a little more of Tresco\, or simply wander back to New Grimsby for the short boat ride home to Bryher.

SUMMARY:Storm Goretti: A Walk Through Recovery
DESCRIPTION:Wednesdays at 2pm\nMeet outside the Garden Café & History Room\nApproximately 1 hour \nWhen Storm Goretti swept across Tresco in January\, around 500 trees were lost\, changing parts of the island’s landscape almost overnight. \nEach Wednesday\, join a member of Tresco’s Land Management team for a gentle walk along Abbey Drive and see that changing landscape for yourself. \nAlong the way\, you’ll hear about the impact of the storm\, the huge clearance effort that has followed and the careful decisions now being made about what – and how – to replant. \nThe walk is usually led by Head of Estate Alasdair Moore\, whose knowledge of Tresco offers a fascinating insight into both what has been lost and the opportunity now emerging to create stronger\, more resilient shelterbelts for generations to come. \nIt’s an informal walk\, with plenty of opportunity to ask questions and hear the story of Tresco’s recovery from those closest to it. \nComing Across from Bryher\nTake the short boat journey from Bryher to Tresco and allow enough time to make your way to the Garden Café\, where the walk begins at 2pm. \nPerhaps make a day of it and explore the Abbey Garden (included in your stay at Hell Bay)\, stop for something to eat or wander back through the island before your return boat to Bryher. \nPlease check the daily inter-island boat times before travelling. \nOccasionally\, operational circumstances may mean the walk has to be cancelled. If you’re making a special journey across from Bryher\, we recommend checking with the Tresco Island Office beforehand.

SUMMARY:Yoga & Meditation
DESCRIPTION:Throughout the season\, Gem leads a changing programme of yoga and meditation sessions from Hell Bay Hotel\, with classes shaped as much by the island and the weather as the practice itself. \nOn cooler days\, sessions take place in the calm of the Hell Bay Yoga Studio. When the weather allows\, practice moves outside onto the hotel lawn – or occasionally further afield\, to one of Bryher’s beaches or another quiet corner of the island. \nWherever the setting\, classes offer time to move\, breathe and simply be present for a while\, with the sound of the sea rarely far away. \nYoga with Gem\nBryher local Gem Hansen is a 1000-hour qualified yoga teacher whose own practice has taken her from Cornwall to Bali. She teaches a range of styles including vinyasa\, restorative and yin yoga\, alongside meditation and other mindful practices. \nHer approach is warm and inclusive\, with sessions suitable for a range of experience levels. You don’t need to be a regular yogi – just come as you are and enjoy an hour set aside for yourself. \nClasses vary throughout the season\, so take a look at Gem’s live schedule below to see what’s coming up during your stay. \nClass Schedule & Booking\nBrowse Gem’s upcoming classes and book your place below. \nPrivate Sessions\nIf you’d prefer something more personal\, private yoga tuition is also available with Gem by arrangement\, whether individually or for a small group. \nPlease speak to the Hell Bay team or contact Gem directly to discuss what might suit you.
